DARRYL QUINTON
Darryl Quinton, affectionately known as DQ, is a prominent figure in South African bass fishing, with a career that spans decades and showcases an extraordinary dedication to the sport. His journey began at a young age, competing at the provincial level in Artlure competitions, where his talent quickly became evident. In the late 1990s, DQ transitioned to the bass fishing scene and immediately felt at home, earning his first Protea Cap in 1999 – a remarkable achievement that marked the beginning of an illustrious career.
Since then, DQ has represented South Africa with distinction, accumulating an impressive 25 Protea Caps and competing in no fewer than seven World Black Bass Championships. His international accolades include a 9th-place finish at the 2012 World Championships in Lake Bolsena, Italy, a 5th-place finish in 2014 at Lake Guerrero, Mexico, and a Silver Medal in 2015, again at Lake Bolsena. DQ’s pinnacle moments came in 2017 and 2019 at the Vaal River, South Africa, where he secured Gold Medals at both the World Championships and World Games, along with a Silver Medal for 2nd overall in the individual team category in 2019. His consistency on the global stage is further highlighted by a 4th-place finish in Mexico in 2018 and his return to Lake Bolsena for the 2024 World Championships.
